What is Foundation?
Foundation remains the most vital makeup product to possess. Foundation is a makeup product that is applied to the face or neck, creating a poreless base for the rest of your makeup. This base can range from full coverage to light coverage, depending on the preferred look. A reliable foundation matches your skin tone, desired makeup finish, and will even protect the skin barrier. How to Choose a Foundation
The market is so saturated with different coverage levels and foundation types, that choosing a foundation often becomes a chore. The most important thing is learning what kind of skin you have so that the foundation will blend easily.
First, determine if your skin is always dry, oily, or a combination of both. An oilier person would avoid dewy foundation formulas; for this will increase their oily appearance. The better the foundation match, the more natural the finish. As a result, foundation comes in multiple forms: liquid, powder, cream, and even skin-improving moisturizer/sunscreen. Matching skin type is paramount to the overall texture and blend of the face.
The last step is deciding what level of coverage you desire. All foundation products include a coverage type; light or sheer, medium, and full. Full coverage is the most prominent coverage look, used for completely blurring pores. Medium is more moderate than full, however, Light would be the most skin-like. Light/Sheer would be used to give the illusion of a bare face.
Application
Each method of applying foundation has its advantages and consequences, however, applying it with your fingers seems to be the most popular. The heat from our fingers “warms up” the pigment, allowing for an easy spread and blend. Sponges and brushes are the next best applicators for foundation, leaving a more natural finish. By blotting the applicator, the product is pressed into the skin, absorbing a lot of the intensity of the pigment.
